Bad Vs. Good

D made a tradition to get me flowers on the 13th as well as the 14th and before you start to gag, there is a valid reason behind it. I was working at Pottery Barn when we started dating, and on Feb 12th 2006 a gunman shot and killed several people. It was horribly sad and traumatic. I still have a fear of guns.
So he sent me flowers on the 13th and then again on the 14th. I thought it was funny so I asked him why he sent me two sets, he said "the first one's were for your sad day, and the second one's were for Valentine's." Everyone who passed my cubical thought I was two-timing some guys and would stop and make me explain why I had two bouquets of flowers. And a tradition was born.
The next year, he sent me a HORRIBLE bouquet of flowers on the 13th. I didn't even want to bring it back to my desk! He called later that day and I couldn't even lie, I burst out laughing and admitted that I was hiding them in someone else's cubical. He said he just ordered them over the phone and told them NO ROSES. (I'm not a fan of roses on Valentines-too cliche)
But he did much better on the valentines tulips. And so you have exhibit A (and b):

Really? Did someone actually put this together and think, 'this random lily in these carnations looks beautiful!'

What the...?

I'm at a loss for words. Searching through pictures of D and I while we were dating I came across this spectacular photo. Looks like his old roommate wear sexier PJ's than I do.

Haven't felt like blogging lately-seemed kind of trivial when someone you love is so so sad. Thanks for making me laugh Nate.

When life hands you lemons

Yellow is Holly's kitchen and post it notes. Why did Mrs. Engar put those lemon drops in that enticing glass jar on her desk? But back to Holly, lately my mind always goes back to Holly. Took this picture in Costa Rica and she said "let me see." Followed by,"Oooh I'll take a copy and put it in my kitchen." What can I/should I/could I do to help her? What would she do? I know, she would write me the nicest note that only she could write and leave it for me while I was sleeping and I would wake, read and smile. She has a gift for kind and thoughtful words. Then she would make me orange carrot cookies and brighten my day. She has a gift for anything baked. It's funny how on these colored days your eyes gravitate toward the color. I opened my fridge and saw a lemon that sits where an egg was designed to fit but I didn't see before. 'Who uses that egg holder?,' I think, and my mind goes back to Holly as it always does. She would open my fridge and say, "Mmmm, you always have such good food in here." To which I would reply "Are you kidding? There's nothing good in there." Holly does this with everything though. With hard days of nursing school, with bitter days in London town, with rain on our wedding days. "It'll work out, " I can hear her saying as though she is squeezing that lemon and holding on to the good that I didn't see before.

Going green.

Green used to be my favorite color. Maybe it still is. Green reminds me of a younger, more creative me. Green reminds me of the fiesta bowl several years ago when the Utes played the Wildcats-in a sea of red shirts and painted faces I was wearing green. Green is St. Patrick's Day and good luck charms. Green means go and be kind to the earth. Broccoli may be my favorite thing to eat. Except when I'm pregnant and then it is Jello. Green is Kermit the frog and the rainbow connection. Watermelon rinds and Kiwi. Recycling is green and so I say "go green."

Caity challenged me to do this. And so, a day late, I did.

Mama's girl...well a little

It's no secret that Elle looks like her dad. From the second I laid eyes on her I knew it was his child (phew because there were a couple other daddy's in question).
After carrying her for nine long months, one c-section scar and strict breast feeding, I can't say that it didn't make me a little sad not to see any resemblance of me. Don't get me wrong, I love my little Asian baby that looks like her daddy but after all the hard work I just wanted to see some resemblance. Someone at work, joked "Are you sure she's yours?" And I was beginning to wonder!
Now thanks to Annie I can finally see some of me in her! Thanks Annie, you made my day!

Bath Time

Most babies love bath time, Elle is still deciding how she feels about them. At first she HATED them. D had to give her all her baths because it was too sad seeing her cry the whole time.

Now she clenches her little fists and makes funny faces as though she is trying to figure out what we are doing to her. The best part is when we take her out and wrap her in a towel. She will open her eyes really wide and stare around the room thinking, "what just happened? And where is my diaper?"

Inauguration Day

With those big brown eye's of hers she watched history happen today.

D said she watched so intently because she thought it was him on TV. Maybe it's really because I had to take her baby Einstein's back to the library today. But I am choosing to think it's because she could sense how special today was.

Santa Baby

Cousin Taylor and Elle on Christmas. They were born only four days apart. Taylor held out his hand to make little Elle feel better (Not kidding-he really did and she calmed right down).

Merry Christmas!

The snow was so bad today that Deboro had to throw on his snow gear and hop in his truck to help our neighbors who were stuck in the snow. Then he had fun making snow angels in our yard.

Elle celebrates her first Christmas! Here she is showing off her new watch (look closely).

"Hey Mommy, look at the monkey Santa got for me. It's head is bigger than my whole body!"

Sidenote: I always tell D that if he were an animal he would be a monkey and he insists that he would be a tiger, but I think I finally have my proof.

Merry Christmas!!! We hope you have a wonderful holiday!
